We help those that try. We create micro-entrepreneurs by giving a Branded Phahama Tricycle & Trailer to recycling operators who choose to work rather than taking to begging or crime.
We offer a comprehensive support program to these operators including equipment
maintenance as well as personal skills development.
The project is funded through corporate sponsorship in exchange for mobile outdoor advertising.
The ‘Phahama Project’ (translated - stand up), holds out the promise of measurable empowerment to potentially thousands of individual subsistence entrepreneurs and significant public awareness through branding
Operators and members of sponsored Co-operatives, although self-employed, are given jobs opportunities and taught the necessary skills needed in the informal recycling sector.
PPP offers the skills needed by the Operators of sponsored trikes to enable them to recycle responsibly, safely, with excellence and lucratively.
Skills such as steel work, admin, basics in site management and marketing are but a few offered and monitored.
PPP have in place mechanisms whereby the Operators are given the opportunity to enter into an incubation or training cluster programe.
As the Operators pass through each stage successfully, they will be trained and experienced at a level where they can successfully start pursuing their own business or, enter into the job market confidently.
Brand exposure has always been a priority for businesses yet the modern corporation has an ever growing need for social awareness. This project addresses both of these requirements and more...
Through the Phahama Project a sponsor achieves cost effective brand promotion while also making a significant grassroots contribution to social and environmental upliftment, all of which is tax deductable.
PPP brings to the table a great deal related to your company CSI (customer satisfaction index), particularly in respect to environmental conservation and sustainability issues.
Successful CSR initiatives take organisations beyond compliance with legislation and leads them to honour ethical values and respect people, communities and the natural environment. CSR is sustainable - involving activities that your organisation can maintain without adversely affecting your business goals. This is where PPP greatly contributes to organisations involved in the sponsorship of these branded trikes.
The sponsor’s brand is advertised at market related, yet far more competitive rates, compared with similar out door branding. By branding a mobile trike, the sponsors have all the aforementioned benefits and yet achieve a cost effective manner of promoting their brand. By virtue of the fact that the project is brand driven, it has taxation benefits. The project has in the past and will again, get substantial and positive media attention, creating further exposure of such branding.
It has been said that “B-BBEE legislation is the most significant piece of legislation affecting South African business today”.
The Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment Act 53 of 2003 affects all business and individuals in South Africa. It is not only vital for the country’s integrated prosperity, but a catalyst for economic growth. By participating in sponsoring branded trikes, empowering waste collectors, your organization will be adding exponentially to your CSI and CSR scoring. Therefore drastically enhancing your organizations BEE scoring.
Through assistance to individuals who choose to work rather than taking to crime or begging, mini-entrepreneurs are created – known as ‘Operators”. All starting from true grass roots level and assisting them to be self- sustained micro businesses with the opportunity of exponential growth.
Cost of assistance is derived via ‘Sponsorship’ through branding.
PPP operators currently deployed in Bram Fisherville, Soweto, have seen the effect of partaking in community cleanup projects.
By doing this, pride in the community and the will to keep it that way is instilled and maintained. These Operators using sponsored trikes have sparked an ongoing community cleanup, and this can be replicated all across the country.
